Have you been wondering what I will be doing in Rwanda?

Here is your answer!

Project Background
Kibogora Hospital is a rural hospital located in southwest Rwanda about 5-6 hours drive from Kigali. It was established about 45 years ago, first as a dispensary run by missionary nurses until the early 1960's, when the first expatriate doctors arrived. By the end of the 1960's it was operating as a full hospital and by 1970 it had grown to 120 beds.

Kibogora now has 260 beds, and is the district referral hospital for ten outlying health centers. It also has an affiliated school providing nursing and scientific training, and the Kibogora complex provides the only hospital service in a district of approximately 250,000 persons.

Site and Project Scope
This is a busy hospital and, with needs growing all the time, space and services are at a premium. Existing buildings, as well as any proposed development, will be on existing hospital property and, with this in mind, the hospital has asked EMI to carry out a number of tasks.

1. First of all, EMI has been asked to carry out a full site survey so that the hospital can see clearly what they own.

2. Secondly, when the above has been completed, Kibogora have asked EMI to undertake a master 're-planning' exercise so that future construction and phasing can be undertaken, and the long term development of the hospital defined, in a logical, fundable and manageable way.

3. As part of this 'strategic re-planning' EMI will also carry out a number of building design exercises for both existing and required new buildings. We will focus on one or two of these buildings in terms of design, but will provide the hospital with guidelines for as many of the future planned buildings as we can.

UPdate!

Good Morning,

Its a glorious morning, the snow is lightly falling and its not to cold.

Here is what has happened so far, I have had donations come in and I am roughly at 1,500 dollars. Which means I still need 7,500 dollars. The Lord is so amazing and has showed me so much with everything that is going on. I will hopefully will be leaving Feb 7th, so I can get to England at a decent time on the 8th. I am so excited to see what the Lord does with my internship. Combining two of my favorites loves in one. The verse that is coming to mind when I write is this:

"For I know the Plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper, not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

He has everything planned out for us, and I am so overjoyed with the possiblites that he has in store for me in this chapter of my life. Please continue to pray for me as I pray for each one of you.

God Bless,

Laura

Dates Change

Good Morning!

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE. The dates of my internship have changed alittle due to the fact the Uganda is having an election in Feb. The reason this afftects me is this, we were going to go to Rwanda in Feb and flying through Uganda. So to be safe and much less hassle, the dates have been moved. I will be traveling straight to the UK Feb 8th and will be coming back May 31st and will be going to Rwanda in early march after we have orientation. By doing this I save me a cost of a flight to colorado and orientation costs.

Welcome to my blog!

First I want to say is welcome! I am so excited to update this as I travel around with EMI. I will hopefully updating this, as well as sending out an update email. The Lord is amazing. As most of you have heard or read, I have been accepted to an internship with Engineering Ministries International. I will be drafting! Which is what my associates degree is in. The organization combines missions and architecture, which is something I have wanted to do for so long. I will be going to Rwanda and Colchester! My team will be doing a hospital in Rwanda. The Lord is doing to move move move. I am so excited to learn from the head architect! A great way to start my career.
